About

Sustaining Places is a free encyclopedia of ideas and best practices for small museums. Every year graduate students in the University of Delaware’s Museum Studies and Public Engagement Program revise and update sections of the site with help from practicing professionals in light of the latest literature in the field.

Launched in 2011, Sustaining Places originated from an Institute for Museum and Library Services (IMLS) grant gifted to the University of Delaware Museum Studies Program partnered with the Tri-State Coalition of Historic Sites and was first a part of a larger training program for emerging professionals. Since then, it has been kept active by graduate students, staff, and faculty from the University of Delaware’s Museum Studies and Public Engagement Program.
